Frequently Asked Questions
Wall printing offers several advantages over vinyl printing.
-
Textured surfaces, wall printing can be applied to textured surfaces regardless of the underlying texture, from stucco to brick.
-
Seamless prints, no seams or sections of vinyl material need to be combined to cover a large surface.
- Damage resistant, and is not affected by environmental conditions such as moisture and sunlight. Direct impacts to the print surface will not cause tears in the print that will slowly unravel over time.
- Same-day service, designs can be made or finalized on-site before printing, offering total flexibility with no advanced preparations needed.
- Environmentally Friendly, no wasteful transfer papers, chemical adhesives, or large transport trucks required. Less than 0.4mL per sq ft of ink is used, and ink is vegan and free from solvents and thinners. No smelly and surface-damaging adhesives are needed!
- Easy to remove without damaging the underlying paint.
The maximum printer height is 13ft (4m). This translates to a mural up to 11.5ft (3.5m) from top to bottom. Width: unlimited.
Due to the nature of the printer and its offset from the print head, wall printing cannot achieve edge-to-edge or full coverage of a wall surface and requires minimum margins:
For horizontal margins, if we are printing from one wall to another wall, we usually recommend a minimum 20 inch margin from each wall corner in order to safely print. If there are no corners then there are only 4 inch margins needed for the print. minimum distance from floor and ceiling is 13 inch.
The ink is UV resistant, maintaining color fastness for 12+ years indoors and 2+ years outdoors. For extreme environments, a clear coat can be applied to improve resilience. Thanks to the UV-cured ink, images are also instantly scratch and abrasion-resistant and 100% waterproof upon printing.
Depending on the selected quality, size, and resolution, it prints between 2-16 sqm per hour. Our process is quick as we set up, print, and disassemble on the same day.
Depending on the substrate, there are different methods of removal:
- Painted surface – two coats of paint and it’s gone!
- Glass or ceramic – a paint scraper or razor blade can be used.
- Wood – can be painted or sanded.
- Metal or concrete – sand or dry ice blasting technology.
Print resolution varies based on the size of the print and the desired print quality, typical print resolutions can start from 150 dpi up to 1200 dpi.
When we come in to measure your space for a print, we will take note of any obstacles that might be in our way, such as light switches, plugs, internet jacks, electrical panels, cracks or damage, windows, etc. Typically, we can either design around the obstacles on the wall, tape over them or have them removed and then reinstalled post-print. Either way, we will ensure your mural fits perfectly in your space!
